Damien Hirst x Supreme

In 2009 British sensationalist artist Damien Hirst designed a set of eight of skateboard deck designs for New York based cult street and skate label, Supreme.
The decks feature Hirst’s signature motifs – three show paint spun decks, resembling the artist’s Spin series - where canvases were spun under paint projected from a centrifugal force creating a layered random yet controlled effect; and five are from the Pharmaceutical series, representing – among other things graphic, coloured spots and line drawings of pills and capsules.

The limited edition decks are going on sale at www.othercriteria.com and there are also 40 signed decks available.

Yohji Yamamoto at the V&A

I went to the press preview of the Yohji Yamamoto retrospective exhibition at the V&A museum on Thursday, and I was truly astounded by the intricacy, beauty - and ultimately the appeal of the pieces on display.

Yamamoto is renowned for his androgynous and experimental designs, but what struck me most about the exhibition was that the concept never overtook the beauty of the clothing.

In addition to mens and womenswear clothing and accessories spanning his illustrious 30 year career, there are also videos of his spectacular catwalk shows - so experimental they often resemble an art install
more than a catwalk show.

there are also mannequins are hidden around the V&A, so you get to stumble across 1990s Japanese avant gardism poised amongst sixteenth century warrior's swords. Oh how I love the V&A!

Hermes online auction

An auction of silk scarves by French luxury house Hermès is being held online, and pieces from the extensive archive are available to view – and buy, here.

The designs vary from intricate hand drawn animals to bold nautical imagery. Many of the designs reference aristocratic French country life – with imagery of hanging rabbits and pistol guns depicted in fine silk.

In addition to the elaborate motifs, I also love the names of the scarves, ‘An Homage to Mozart ‘, ‘Tarot’ and ‘Dead Rabbits’ are just a few that made me smile, and below are some of my favourite designs.

Prices start at a rather reasonable 80 euros, so if anyone would like to give me an early birthday present, please see below for suggestions!

Fashion week invitations

My favourite fashion week invitation so far arrived in a lovely big box on a bike. It was Mulberry's origami fortune teller game of course!

Love from Darkroom

Tonight I went to see the Love from Darkroom valentines exhibition. Several 'createurs' from Carolyn Massey and Philip Treacy to Barnaby Roper and Bill Woodrow were commissioned to create an 'heart work' to be sold at the shop for a set fee of £150.

Proceeds of all sales are donated to Camila Batmanghelidjh's Kids Company charity. Benevolent chic anyone?!
Love from Darkroom runs until February 14th.

Vivienne Westwood for the United Nations & World Trade Organisation

Dame Vivienne has triumphed in creating an ethical product that still appeals to the fashion hungry. Her collection of bags - as shown during her ss/11 Paris Gold Label show, are all handmade from recycled advertising vinyls by women suffering extreme poverty in Nairobi, Kenya.

The project is part of the Ethical Fashion Programme, in association with the International Trade Centre, the United Nations and World Trade Organisation, and aims to help women to work to improve their financial situation in ways that have minimal negative environmental impact.

Modern British Sculpture

I was kindly invited to attend the Royal Academy's Modern British Sculpture exhibition press preview the other day, and here are a few of the pieces on display.

No doubt Damien Hirst's fly infested installation will gain column inches, but there are hundreds of seminal sculptures on display which I urge you to explore.

While you're at it check out the new Tom Dixon designed Peyton and Byrne restaurant at the Royal Academy. (The blueberry pancakes are delicious!)

Modern British Sculpture runs until April 7th.
