Hit+Run, Windows Phone 7 & Rough Trade present Kutmah: The New Error V. 2 launch party

If you're in London this week and you want to hear music by one of LA's most exciting creative exports, then head down to Rough Trade records where Kutmah is hosting the first in a series of summer events.
After a poignant exhibition, Two Soups and a Honey Bun showing evocative drawings made whilst being detained in US Customs, Kutmah follows up by releasing his second mix (a sample from which you can listen to here) and he's throwing a party with some friends to celebrate it. Also playing on the night is Om-Unit, Tapes, Blue Daisy, Cherry Stones and Patchwork Pirates, as well as live screen printing from The Hit and Run crew.

For more information on the event, head here
Wednesday 11th May, 6.30-9.30 pm

If it's good enough for Stella...

I absolutely adore these videos made by DJ Pogo, who previously worked for Walt Disney Motion Picture Studios and was contractually obliged to remove them from the internet whilst working for Walt. Now they're back, and they're more charming than ever!

If Stella McCartney approves Disney then who am I to argue?!

Reggae Britannia

Being a fan of all things reggae, Dub and Ska - and of most things BBC, I've been looking forward to the BBC's Reggae Britannia series for a while now.
This morning I watched Reggae Britannia on the iPlayer (something else I'm a big fan of!) It was really interesting to understand the dichotomy between British and Jamaican reggae music, and its impact on mainstream pop music - I never knew that Boy George's Culture Club was so heavily influenced by reggae music. Nor, in my ignorance - did I realise the extent of racial division in British culture of the time. It shocked me, and yet it's so recent.

I highly recommend watching the documentary here and stay tuned for the rest of the series.

P.S. Straight after watching the show, I had to listen to all the old classics. Here's a few...

Dreadlock Holiday - 10CC

Natty Dread She Want - Big Youth

Dub Fire - Aswad

loving You - Janet Kay

Everything I Own - Ken Boothe

Cherry Oh Baby - UB40

Back To Life - Soul II Soul

Pass the Dutchie - Musical Youth

Wretch 32 featuring L - Traktor

I tried resisting this song, but the pull was too strong. It's a tune!

Loving the styling by my great friend Georgia Broaders.

J Dilla - Think Twice (featuring Dwele)

Just in case you ever doubted Dilla's magnificence

26.11.10

Chilly Gonzales - You can Dance

It's corny, but I don't care!

Happy Friday

Cherry Ghost

Not quite the mix I wanted, but excellent all the same.

Happy weekend!

I've been eagerly awaiting the unveiling of East London's newest concept store, LN-CC. Founded by John Skelton of oki-ni fame, and Dan Mitchell from Bad Passion; the store will stock mens and womenswear - with a focus on unisex styling. As well as accessories, rare books and music.
Designers including Damir Doma, Maison Martin Margiela, Prism and J.W. Anderson will be presented in the shop-come-library-come gallery space, which will also be available for private functions, boasting a serious sound system for party fun times as well as retail serious times!

The store is due to open in October- by appointment only, but the online store in open now. Check it out here.

Eniko Mihalik by Barnaby Roper on Show Studio

Fashion photographer Nick Knight’s online project Show Studio provides a continuous source of inspiration, and contributing video director Barnaby Roper’s latest offering to the site is no exception.

Roper’s film-or 26 of them actually, features the ever-lovely Eniko Mihalik in a collection of outfits by designers including Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler and Ohne Titel; all styled by Keegan Singh.
The 26 video clips correspond to the 26 letters of the alphabet on a computer keyboard, so as the viewer clicks different letters the videos change; and 10 audio clips ca be use to create a personalized music video. Voila!
